Import Day One JSON ZIP exports

Upload a Day One JSON ZIP export directly from your WordPress admin area. DayOneWP reads the export, processes the journal entries and prepares them for import into WordPress.

Import text and photos together

DayOneWP does not only import your written journal entries. It also detects images inside the ZIP export and uploads them to the WordPress Media Library.

Photos can be added inside the post content and can also be set as featured images.

Preserve original journal details

Your Day One entries are more than plain text. DayOneWP keeps important original details, including:

• Original journal date and time
• Location data
• Day One metadata
• Entry structure
• Associated media

This makes the imported WordPress content feel much closer to the original journal.

Preview before publishing

Before importing your entries, you can preview the content. This gives you more control over what will be published, what should become a draft, and how your entries will appear inside WordPress.

Publish as blog posts or custom post type

You can import your Day One entries as standard WordPress posts.

If you prefer to keep your journal separate from your regular blog, DayOneWP can also create and use a dedicated custom post type for your journal entries.

Duplicate protection

DayOneWP includes duplicate checks to help prevent duplicate imports and duplicate media files. This is especially useful when working with larger journals or when you need to resume an import later.

Import history, logging and safe undo

The plugin keeps an import history with logging. If something does not go as expected, you have a safer way to review what happened and undo imported content when needed.

Built for larger journals

DayOneWP is designed with larger journal exports in mind. Imports are resumable, making the process more reliable when working with many entries and media files.

Styling options

You can adjust formatting options such as headings, paragraphs, spacing, fonts and Google Fonts. This helps your imported journal entries match the style of your WordPress website.

SEO support

During import, DayOneWP can work with SEO fields and supports popular SEO plugins, including:

• Rank Math
• SEOPress

This makes it easier to prepare imported entries for search engines, especially when you want to publish selected journal entries as public blog content.

Multilingual interface

DayOneWP can automatically choose the interface language or use a fixed language. The plugin currently supports Dutch and English.

The built-in system status page helps you check whether your WordPress environment is ready for importing. It shows useful information such as:

Privacy, cleanup and uninstall settings

DayOneWP includes settings for privacy, cleanup and uninstall behavior, so you can decide what should happen with plugin data when cleaning up or removing the plugin.

The plugin can check for updates through the Lijn-B website, so you can stay up to date when new versions become available.

Does DayOneWP import photos from Day One?

Yes. Photos included in the Day One ZIP export can be uploaded to the WordPress Media Library and added to the imported content.

Can I preview entries before importing them?

Yes. DayOneWP includes a preview step before publication, so you can review entries before importing or publishing them.

Can I import entries as drafts?

Yes. You can publish entries directly or save them as drafts.

Can I use a custom post type?

Yes. You can use regular WordPress posts or let DayOneWP create a dedicated custom post type for your journal entries.

Does DayOneWP keep the original Day One date?

Yes. The plugin preserves the original date and time of the journal entry.

Does it support SEO plugins?

Yes. DayOneWP supports SEO fields during import and works with Yoast SEO, Rank Math and SEOPress.

Is DayOneWP suitable for large journals?

Yes. DayOneWP is built with larger journal exports in mind and supports resumable imports.

Is DayOneWP free?

Yes. The plugin is completely free. Donations through Ko-fi are optional.

Does DayOneWP track usage or active installations?

No. DayOneWP does not track active installations and does not collect usage data.

The plugin is designed with privacy in mind, especially because Day One journals can contain very personal content. DayOneWP only works inside your own WordPress installation and does not send your journal entries, photos, metadata or website content to Lijn-B.

The plugin may check for updates through WordPress when update checks are enabled, but no journal content or personal usage data is collected.
